  • You have no expectation of privacy in this hangout and will not share confidential or trade secret information (your own or anyone else’s), saving confidential material for a private call with Catherine;
  • You will not record, live-stream or publish this hangout, though you can take notes for your own use.

CONFIDENTIALITY: We will not be recording this hangout, nor will we be publishing or streaming this hangout in the future. But even so, hangouts are not confidential communications and should be considered public. Anything you say in the hangout will be heard by the others in the hangout. And some could record or publish the meeting, in violation of our Terms of Use.

At IP Works Law, we dedicate ourselves to providing useful information and guidance for creative entrepreneurs, artists, and businesses. As an IP law firm with a mission to support innovation, we respect and strictly protect the privacy of those who visit or use our Web sites. When we collect information from you, we want you to know how it is used. To demonstrate our commitment to fair information practices and transparency, we have adopted leading industry privacy guidelines.

Visiting IP Works Law online

When visiting our websites, you may access online content, make an appointment, communicate with us or sign up for an event, which may involve using a link we publish or give to you. While using our site, you may give us information so that we can provide enhanced products or services to you. This online privacy policy describes how we use and protect the information that you share with us.


This policy governs Web sites owned and operated by IP Works Law. Our policy does not govern Web sites of other parties to which we may provide links. We work with some third-party providers of support services to make this all happen (Microsoft®, RingCentral®, MailChimp®, to name a few). We’ll call those our Third-Party Providers — Third-Party because they are not IP Works Law, Providers because we pay them to provide services to us so we can serve you online. Their privacy policies govern their services.

Notice of our website information practices

To help things run smoothly and get you where you want to be, we may request information from you when you visit our Web sites. When we collect information from you, we’ll tell you what is being collected, by whom it is being collected, how it will be used, and to whom it may be disclosed. We’ll also identify the information that is necessary to fulfill your request. Whenever we ask for additional or optional information, we mark those fields appropriately so that you know it is not required to provide the requested service.


IP Works Law does not share your information with outside companies for their promotional use. We may, however, exchange your information with our Third-Party Providers when necessary.


We do this only to fill your requests, make things run smoothly for you on our site, to add you to our mailing list (if you have opted in) to provide you with information about other IP Works Law news or events we think you might find useful.


Your personally identifiable information may be transferred in connection with a sale, merger, transfer, exchange or other disposition (whether of assets, stock or otherwise) of all or a portion of a business of IP Works Law.  We don’t see that happening, but if it does you will have the opportunity to opt-out of further use of your information following any change of control.


If we change any of our privacy policies or practices, we’ll post those changes to this policy or to the site-specific privacy statement at least 30 days before they take effect.

We tell you how and why we use web technologies.

Our site may also gather usage information automatically through the use of cookies, Web server logs, or other Web technologies. If we do so we will tell you how and why we are doing this.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it.


We are PCI compliant via LawPay via PracticePanther. That means all credit card information stays securely with LawPay with redacted customer payment information securely shared with PracticePanther. We do not see, store or access your credit card information.


If you buy something or pay your bill or a retainer, LawPay collects information about you during the checkout process. If you sign up for something, send us a message through our website contact page, or book an appointment through our website, we collect information from you in that process. This information helps to fulfill orders and serve you, and we do not share it with anyone except securely with our Third-Party Providers as necessary.  This information is collected during the checkout or account creation process and includes the following personal data:

  • Name
  • Address
  • E-mail address
  • Phone number
  • Payment details (only if you buy something, pay your bill or retainer)

In addition, we also collect and use cookies to keep track of the following information while you are on our site to help support you during your visit: (see Cookies, below, for more info)

  • Pages viewed
  • Links clicked
  • Location/IP address
  • Browser type

When you buy something from us, we’ll ask you to provide information including your name, address, email address, phone number, credit card/payment details and we may ask you to create optional account information like username and password. We’ll use this information for purposes, such as to:

  • Send you information about your account and order
  • Respond to your requests, including refunds or complaints
  • Set up your account for our store
  • Comply with any legal obligations we have, such as calculating taxes
  • Improve our store offerings
  • Send you marketing messages, if you choose to receive them

If you create an account, we will store your name, address, email and phone number, which (if you opt into Cookies) will be used to populate the checkout for future orders.

Comments, Media

Currently we don’t have anywhere for you to leave comments or post media (pictures, etc.) on our site. If we add that feature in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy to let you know how that will work.

Contact Forms, Sign Up Forms

If you contact us through one of our website forms, we collect the data shown in the form, and we also may collect the IP address and browser user agent string from the computer you are using to help identify spam and fraudulent submissions.


We use an SMTP service to deliver the information you put into our website forms as an email to This service allows us to monitor and ensure the delivery of the email to us.

Opt Into Cookies

If you create an account, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you sign up for another event. These cookies will last for one year.


When you create an account, we may set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.


User Interactions

When you interact with the site, we may log your actions with your username (if logged in) and IP address. This information is used for support/debugging site performance and interaction and is only used by our web development staff. This information is held for 30 days and then deleted.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who on our team has access; Confidential Information

Members of our team (Catherine, Laura and Sara) have access to the information you provide us. For example, both Administrators and Customer Support can access:

  • Order information such as what was purchased, when it was purchased, and where it should be sent, and
  • Customer information such as your name, email address, and billing and shipping information (but not your payment details).


Our team members have access to this information to help fulfill orders, process refunds and support you.


Each team member, upon being hired, signs a confidentiality contract (Non-Disclosure Agreement) with IP Works Law promising to keep strictly confidential all information you share with us, through our website and otherwise.


Even so, please don’t share confidential information through our website contact forms or even ordinary email. We have secure, encrypted messaging through PracticePanther for clients’ most sensitive content. If you’re not a client yet, tell us by phone or just wait until you have a login for our secure IP Works Law client site on PracticePanther.

What we share with others

We will not sell or share your personal data with any third parties without your prior consent (which you are free to withhold) except where we are required to do so by law and except for sharing with the Third-Party Providers as discussed above.


Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect information about the use of this site. For details please see the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser.


When you sign up for something, we keep a record of your email and the cart contents for up to 30 days on our server. This record is kept to repopulate the contents of your cart if you switch devices or need to come back another day.


When you subscribe to our news and events, we collect any pertinent contact information, such as your name and email address, to allow us to send you news and updates by email. This information is used only to communicate with our subscribers. Read Mailchimp’s privacy policy for more information.

How long we retain your data; PracticePanther; Microsoft

PracticePanther® is the Third-Party Provider we use for client case details, workflow management, ultra-sensitive client communications, and billing. Client case information and work product also is kept securely on Microsoft® Sharepoint®. Only Catherine (Attorney/Owner), Laura (Customer Support/Paralegal) and Sara(Marketing/Support) have access to Sharepoint. Only Catherine (Administrator/Owner), and Laura (Customer Support) have access to PracticePanther data. See PracticePanther’s privacy policy here _____. For users that create an account on PracticePanther, we (via PracticePanther) also store the personal information they provide in their PracticePanther user profile.


We keep client information on Sharepoint indefinitely. If you wish your information to be deleted, please let us know and we will delete it except for information we are required to keep by law.


We keep client information on PracticePanther indefinitely except for clients with whom we have had no contact for the past 5 years. If you wish your information to be deleted, please let us know and we will delete it except for information we are required to keep by law.


As previously noted, we do not keep and have no access to your credit card information. If you have saved a credit card as a payment method on our IP Works Law client portal through PracticePantehr, your credit card information is securely stored with LawPay, not on PracticePanther or at IP Works Law.

What rights you have over your data

We give you the opportunity to control the use of your personally identifiable information that you have provided to us for purposes other than to fulfill your request.


If you have an account on PracticePanther, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
